SUITE

In 2018 I had the opportunity to collaborate with Yannick Jacquet and Nicolas Boritch on the development of a real-time version of SUITE, a concept that Yannick had developed already from 2016.

To quote Yannick:

…This contemplative work draws inspiration from certain principles of repetition often used in minimalist and serial musical constructions. Employing constantly shifting simple graphic elements, Suite unfolds through slow evolutions. Fluid mechanics and geometry synthesize to create a rich visual complexity that tends towards abstraction..

The real time version of SUITE was developed with Cinder and ofxTimeline for the control of the various parameters. The main driver for the oscillation visuals but also for the color blend and mix effects, are noise functions - for the oscillations, a noise-flow frame buffer is sampled on each frame and becomes the main driver for the dynamics of the line of each grid cell. At the same time a color effects shader takes care to render the evolution of the color flow over the grid. Almost all parameters of the application in terms of resolution, orientation, shader/noise/colour parameters, timings etc. where configurable at runtime either through a custom UI or through the generation of OSC events through ofxTimeline.
